Age Concern North West Cumbria

Supporting People

The Supporting People Programme provides funding for housing-related support services, to enable vulnerable adults to maintain independence in their own homes, and to improve the way in which support services are delivered.

Age Concern Northwest Cumbria runs a 'Supporting People' service specifically for older people, who have been assessed as in need of housing-related support.

What does the service provide?

  • Help in establishing social contacts and activities
  • Support in developing domestic / life skills
  • Help in managing finances and claiming benefits
  • Help to arrange shopping or cleaning services
  • Advice and support on repair work
  • Help in gaining access to other services

Who can make referrals?

  • Referrals to the service can only be made with the consent of the individual
  • Anyone can refer to the service (eg Social Workers, health care professionals, relatives or friends)
  • People often refer themselves, because they realise that with a little support they can keep or regain their independence
