Our Accident Prevention and Home Safety Service (APHS) works to help make your home a safer and more secure place to live in. The service is available to people aged 55 and over who live in Allerdale or Copeland.

Reduce the risk of accidents

With a little advice and help to deal with potential hazards, you can reduce the chances of having a serious fall or accident at home.

Reduce the risk of burglary

By taking a few practical steps to protect your property, you can reduce the risk of a break-in and feel more secure in your home.

Adapt your home to your needs

To enable you to move around safely and to manage daily living.

Maintain your health and independence

A safer and more secure environment can help you stay in good health and continue living independently in your own home.

How can we help?

• We can provide information and advice on how to improve safety in your home

• We can visit to assess the risks to your safety

• We can carry out small repairs in and around the house for example: fixing loose coverings and wires, preventing water leaks, replacing broken toilet seats, clearing garden pathways and repairing gates.

• We can fit small adaptations such as hand, grab and stair rails, key safes, lever taps, door knob turners etc.

• We can install security equipment including: locks for doors and windows, bolts, security chains, door viewers and sensor lights.

How much will it cost ?

• A small call-out charge will be made that includes the first hour of labour
• Additional labour will be charged at an hourly rate
• An estimate of all costs will be made prior to any work being carried out.
• All materials are charged at cost price.
• For those who find it difficult to pay, further help and advice will be provided
